Thirty Something.

In my early teens, thirteen, fourteen and fifteen i was obsessed with skateboarding and was good enough to enter competitions. All i thought about was skateboarding and chicks man. When i entered high school i stopped skateboarding because i became serious about playing baseball, eventually becoming captain of my high school team. As i got older it was interesting to discover which of my friends skateboarded as a youngster. I guess one can make the argument everyone had their phase. I'm not talking about those people. In the late eighties, early nineties there was a sub-culture with it's own music, style of dress etc. When i come across an individual who was part of this subculture it is as if you have a special bond / connection with one another. Discussing your favorite skaters and videos from back in the day. Ive recently discovered a website titled skatevideosonline.com and began watching all my favorite skateboarding viideos from back in the day, videos i onced owned until they were giving away by my mother. My interest in skateboaerding slowly began to peak. Of course there is the X Games which didn't exist when i skateboarded, but it became a fabric of the main stream. I finally googled skate shops in the area and came across one on Brewster Street in Black Rock. I entered the shop feeling out of place, with my Seven Jeans and my Calvin Klein overcoat. Finally i approached one of the gentlemen in the store and explained i was an avid skateboarder back in the day and that i even entered competitions. That being said the last time i stepped on a skateboard was eighteen years ago, but was interested in getting back into it. I have yet to purchase the board, but intend to. This blog will chronicle my getting back into skateboarding and seeing where it takes me.
